South Korea has accused its northern neighbour of a cyberattack on its nuclear power plant operator.
The attacks were allegedly carried out in December and have been described by South Korea's government as a "clear provocation against our security".
In a statement, the Ministry of Unification said: "We condemn North Korea's persistent cyber-terror targeting of our country and the international community."
It also accused Pyongyang of "taking the life and safety of our people as a hostage".
In December hackers published manuals, designs and other information about the South Korean reactors on Twitter, along with personal information about the operating company's employees.
The team of South Koreans investigating the incident says the hackers tried to cause a malfunction at the reactors, which supply around 30% of the country's electricity, but failed to break through the control systems.
They said that the hackers stole the data by using multiple internet protocol addresses based in China to send around 6,000 phishing emails to more than 3,500 former and current employees involved in running the 23 reactors.
It added that the codes used in the attacks were similar to those previously used by the North's hackers and were intended to "stir up social unrest and agitation".
The accusations come at a time of rising tensions in the region, with ongoing US-South Korean military drills branded by North Korea as a rehearsal for invasion.
It is also not the first time Seoul has blamed Pyongyang for cyberattacks on its infrastructure, citing previous examples against government agencies, military institutions, banks, TV broadcasters and media websites.
North Korea also denies last year's cyberattack which damaged the computer network of Hollywood film giant Sony in protest at its controversial movie The Interview.
